The garden was created by Alexandre Marcel, a famous orientalist architect, between 1899 and 1912, and restored in the early 1980’s. In 1987, it was acknowledged as a typical stroll garden of the Edo Period by three Japanese experts.
The Parc Oriental of Maulévrier has been managed since 1982 by an association (law of 1901) which counts about a hundred volunteers who support the work of the staff.
The permanent team of employees is made up of about twenty professionals, including 8 gardeners. Supplemented by numerous seasonal workers, they welcome visitors, maintain the garden, organise events and create new projects.
